How to Choose Your Wedding Flowers
Choosing your wedding flowers is one of the most exciting parts of planning your big day — but it can also feel a little overwhelming. With so many blooms to choose from, where do you even begin?
The good news is that nature has already done a lot of the work for you. Choosing flowers that are in season not only means your bouquet will look its absolute best, it's also kinder on your budget and much better for the planet. Here at The Flower Studio, we always encourage couples to embrace what's naturally available at the time of year they're getting married. The results are always beautiful — and always honest.
Here's our guide to what's in season, and how to make the most of it.
Spring Weddings - March - May
Spring is a truly magical time to get married on the Isle of Man. Everything is waking up, the light is soft and golden, and the weather is (hopefully!) starting to improve!
What's in season: Tulips, narcissi, anenomes, ranunculus, and blossom branches.
The look: Spring florals lend themselves beautifully to loose, garden-style arrangements — think overflowing bouquets with lots of texture and movement. Soft pinks, creams, and lilacs are classic, but don't be afraid of a bold yellow or vibrant coral if that suits your personality.
Our tip: Ranunculus are one of our absolute favourites for spring weddings. They're delicate and dramatic all in one bloom. Ask us about sourcing them locally!
Summer Weddings - June-August
Summer is the most popular season for weddings, and it's easy to see why. The days are long, the weather (keeping those fingers crossed!) is on your side, and the floral options are at their most abundant.
What's in season: Roses, peonies, sweet peas, lavender, cosmos, cornflowers and delphiniums
The look: Summer allows for real abundance and drama — think full, lush arrangements with rich colours. Deep purples, blues, and vibrant pinks feel wonderfully celebratory, while whites and soft greens give a classic, timeless feel.
Our tip: If sustainability is important to you (and we think it should be!), summer is the easiest season to source locally grown flowers. We work with local and British growers whose blooms travel far fewer miles than imported stems.
Autumn Weddings - September - November
Autumn weddings have become increasingly popular, and honestly, we think they might be our favourite. There's something so romantic about the season - warm tones, cosy textures, and a sense of abundance.
What's in season: Dahlias, chrysanthemums, marigolds, sunflowers, rosehips, berries, hypericum, and gorgeous seasonal foliage.
The look: Rich, earthy tones feel right at home in autumn — deep burgundies, burnt oranges, terracotta, and mustard yellows. Foliage plays a big role this time of year too, and we love incorporating seasonal branches, seed heads, and berries for real texture and depth.
Our tip: Dried flowers pair beautifully with autumn arrangements and are a wonderful sustainable choice. They also make a gorgeous keepsake long after the wedding day itself.
Winter Weddings - December - February
Winter weddings have a magic all of their own - candlelight, cosy venues, and florals that feel truly special. While the range of blooms is naturally smaller, there's so much you can do with what's available.
What's in season: Amaryllis, hellebores, anemones, paperwhites, winter foliage (eucalyptus, holly, ivy), and dried botanicals.
The look: Lean into the drama of the season. Deep greens and rich reds feel festive and timeless, while an all-white palette with textured foliage is stunning in its simplicity. Dried grasses and seed heads add an ethereal, wintry feel.
Our tip: Don't underestimate foliage. In winter especially, beautiful greenery can carry an entire arrangement. We love creating winter wedding flowers that feel lush and abundant even with a smaller range of blooms.
Whatever time of year you're getting married, the most important thing is that your flowers feel like you. Trends come and go, but a bouquet chosen with love, thought, and a connection to the season will always be something you look back on with joy.
